In the mid-90s, pinball was in trouble (and arcades in general). The games were not selling as well as they had not too long before. Bally/Williams decided it was time to try something completely different. And, with the help of an awesome design team led by Brian Eddy, they were able to create a unique design that for a short-time put pinball back on the map. Attack From Mars had a very simple layout with an empty middle section along with ramps and targets surrounding the outer edge. That fact, along with the explosion of the mother-ship gimmick, bouncing aliens and strobe light mode attracted the "novice" players back to pinball. However, it also managed to keep the "seasoned" players interested by adding deep rules with an anticipation of reaching the highest goal: Ruling the Universe. Throw in all the great qualities that a 90s Bally/Williams game was known for and you have a top notch machine! Way to go!
